Roseville Joint Union High School District Goals

District Goals 2011-2012

     
  1. Increase by 3 percentage points in every subgroup the number of graduates who complete UC a-g requirements.
  2. Improve by 5 percentage points the number of students who are proficient (scoring 70% or better) on the district- designed core academic common assessments.
  3. Train 10 additional teachers at each site on PLC concepts, and additionally train 15 teachers per site on instructional practices to increase the effectiveness of their professional learning teams and to improve student learning.
  4. Improve student performance to meet mandated Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets with every significant subgroup on 10th grade California High School Exit Exams (CaHSEE).
  5. Improve student proficiency on California Standards Tests by 10 percentage points in Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2.

English Language Development Program Goals for 2011-2012

The English Learner program uses the district goals as the basis for action. Certain district goals are more pertinant to English Learners than other. The program focuses on goals 1 and 4. Each of these is listed below with the supportive actions.

RJUHSD Goal #1: Increase by 3 percentage points the number of graduates who complete A-G requirement.

• Providing Language aides in English Language Development and SDAIE classes at Roseville High School.

• Providing Language aides in SDAIE CAHSEE prep classes at Roseville High School.

• Providing lunch-time tutoring for students at Roseville High School.

• Providing supplementary materials for the CAHSEE prep classes at Roseville High School.

• Providing electronic translators for the SDAIE CAHSEE prep classes at Roseville High School.

• Working with the AVID program to aid transition from the ELD program into AVID.

• Adopting AVID strategies in ELD and SDAIE classes.

• Supporting staff development to understand effective ways to work with Long-Term English Learners (LTELs).

• Supporting staff development for learning and implementing AVID strategies in the ELD and SDAIE classrooms.

• Supporting staff development for learning and implementing SIOP techniques.

• Supporting parent education programs (PIQE and Yes We Can) to teach parents about the A-G requirements and their role in university admissions at Antelope High and at Roseville High.

• Providing support to a volunteer-produced staff newsletter to raise awareness of English Learner issues, publicize upcoming meetings and events, and promote effective teaching techniques,

• Providing support to a volunteer-produced parent newsletter to publicize upcoming meetings and events, promote school-parent communcations and to teach parents about learning at home.

The English Learner program is developing a plan to:

• Expand the Yes We Can parent education program Oakmont High and Woodcreek High

• Create and hire academic intervention specialists at Antelope, Oakmont and Roseville high schools.

• Expand the lunch-time tutoring program to Antelope and Oakmont high schools.

RJUHSD Goal #4: Improve student performance to meet mandated Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets with every significant subgroup on 10th grade California High School Exit Exams (CaHSEE).

The district supports raising scores of all students regardless of their membership in any of the demographic subgroups tracked by the state government. The English Learner population in the district is dominated by Hispanics. There is also a high incedence of poverty among families of English Learners, both Hispanic as well as other ethnicities. Hence the district recognizes that academic gains for English Learners also produces gains in the Hispanic and low socioeconomic status subgroups. The district supports these learners by:

• Providing Language aides in English Language Development and SDAIE classes at Roseville High School.

• Providing Language aides in SDAIE CAHSEE prep classes at Roseville High School.

• Providing lunch-time tutoring for students at Roseville High School.

• Providing supplementary materials for the CAHSEE prep classes at Roseville High School.

• Providing electronic translators for the SDAIE CAHSEE prep classes at Roseville High School.

• Providing word-to-word glossaries in multiple languages for all schools, and in particular for use in the ELD, SDAIE and CAHSEE prep classes at Roseville High School and for use on the CAHSEE exam.

• Working with the AVID program to aid transition from the ELD program into AVID.

• Adopting AVID strategies in ELD and SDAIE classes.

• Supporting staff development to understand effective ways to work with Long-Term English Learners (LTELs). to improve academic achievement

• Supporting staff development for learning and implementing AVID strategies in the ELD and SDAIE classrooms.

• Initiating staff development for learning and implementing the "Marzano strategies".

• Supporting staff development for learning and implementing SIOP techniques.

• Supporting parent education programs (PIQE and Yes We Can) to teach parents about the CAHSEE and its importance.

• Supporting parent education programs (PIQE and Yes We Can) to teach parents how to help their students at home

• Administering a recognition program for students who pass the CAHSEE.

• Supporting a volunteer-based rewards program for students who pass the CAHSEE.

• Providing support to a volunteer-produced staff newsletter to raise awareness of English Learner issues, publicize upcoming meetings and events, and promote effective teaching techniques,

• Providing support to a volunteer-produced parent newsletter to publicize upcoming meetings and events, promote school-parent communcations and to teach parents about learning at home.
