Community Relations

Partnership with Parents

Our partnership with parents is very important to us. We are all on the same team: Working to achieve the best education we can for the youth in our schools. The Consolidated Programs office cooperates with the Roseville Adult School to provide two parent education programs, Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE, piqe.org) and Yes We Can!

Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE)

The Roseville Joint Union High School District has contracted with the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) three times to bring PIQE's high quality program to the district. PIQE provides a nine-week parent education institute that focuses on training parents on how to help their student succeed in school and to be accepted into college. The District has been able to capitalize on this enthusaism using PIQE as an introduction to Yes We Can, a district-created program to provide similar training tailored to our local circumstances.

Yes We Can!

Yes We Can! is a monthly parent education program with multiple goals: (1) To connect with the parents to provide an avenue of mutual communication, (2) to provide parent information and education, (3) to assist parents in helping their students be successful in high school, and (4) to provide parent education to assist parents with helping their students be prepared for success in college.

The meetings are free of charge and open to the public. For more information, contact Ted Herr, English Learner Coordinator at 786-0793 ext. 1364 or by email: therr@rjuhsd.us

Current Working Relationship

Areas for Growth

Roseville City School District

The Roseville Joint Union High School district continues to cooperate with the Roseville City School District in programs for English Learners. We maintain positive personal relationships with key staff. We worked cooperatively with the RCSD to offer PIQE classes at Kaseberg Elementary School. The RCSD has in the past also cooperated with us in allowing us to provide CELDT testing on the Kaseberg campus for RJUHSD students during the summer.

We would like to expand our level of cooperation in several ways:

  • Expand the level of cooperation for sharing electronic student data as 8th graders move into 9th grade.
  • Expand our level of cooperation by offering parent-oriented courses.
  • Explore areas for addressing academic problems of students in the 9th through 12th grades by addressing the problems in the 7th and 8th grades.

The Roseville Joint Union High School District continues to work closely with the Placer County Office of Education on many areas of mutual interest. This working partnership has been extremely productive due to the depth of knowledge and professionalism of the English Learner division of PCOE.

The relationship between the two agencies is extremely productive. Areas for growth have not been noted, and we expect to see high levels of cooperation and mutual support continuing.

Other California School Districts

The level of involvement with other school districts varies. The Roseville Joint Union High School district continues to cooperate with paperwork for students transferring to and from other school districts.

No areas for growth noted. RJUHSD will continue to cooperate with all outside agencies with a high level of customer service.

Partnership with Other Governmental Agencies

City of Roseville

The City of Roseville has a strong, positive reputation with the people in the school district. We will look for areas of mutual interest to cooperate with the city.

City of Roseville Police Department

The Roseville Police Department staffs a Youth Services Officer on each of the comprehensive school sites. The officers have a solid reputation for the interest in youth and their ability to work with both youth and school staff. We have specifically benefited from their presence on campus and the resources and knowledge the officers have very willingly shared. We will look for areas of mutual interest to further develop this relationship.

City of Roseville Public Library

The Roseville Public Library system has worked well with the school district in the past. We will look for literacy promotion activities where the school and the library can match our interests for the benefit of the community.

Partnership with Ethnic Communities

Welcome

All community members should feel welcomed in all of our schools and offices.

Challenges

The biggest challenge for our relationships with outside groups is to make sure that all of our staff welcomes all students, regardless of their cultural heritage, ethnicity, gender, appearance or any other defining characteristic, actual or perceived.

We are also working to learn about the Hispanic community. We offer student support classes in Spanish (Parent Institute for Quality Education and Yes We Can!) in English and Spanish. Our attempts at offering the same courses in Russian have not succeeded due to poor turnout. Therefore, one of our challenges is community outreach with our Russian speaking families.

Relations with Significant Demographic Subgroups

Members of all demographic groups are welcome in most of our schools. When all are welcome in all schools, this web page will be updated.

Demographic Subgroups as Defined by the State of California

For purposes of tracking student achievement in order to ensure that all students are receiving equitable educational opportunities, the State of California has defined and tracks the performance of students in many demographic subgroups. The following subgroups are the ones deemed by the state to be significant within the district. Their performance is explicitly documented and tracked.

  • Students with Disabilities
  • Socioeconomically Disadvantaged
  • English Learners
  • Two or More Raceds
  • Black or African American
  • American Indian or Alaska Native
  • Asian
  • Filipino
  • Hispanic or Latino
  • Native Hawaiian or Pacifc Islander
  • White

To see a complete list of the state's demographic subgroups, see "About STAR 2009"

The Consolidated Programs office is concerned about the well-being and achievement of all students. If you feel there is a problem of discrimination based on a students' demographic characteristics or perceived characteristics please feel free to contact any school administrator to express your concerns. You have legal rights of complaint without recriminations.
