Standardized Testing

The State of California requires several types of testing and reporting for students, schools and school districts.

Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR)

At the high school level, the STAR test is also known as the California Standards Tests. Students in grades 2 -11 take tests based on the state's instructional standards yearly. The results are reported on the California Department of Education website uisng a data analysis system called "Dataquest." It is available at http://dq.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/

Challenges

Under the requirements of No Child Left Behind, the schools need to ensure that all students test at a highlevel of proficiency.

Key Strategies

A strong academic program is the best way for the district to perform well in accountabililty measures. Such a rpogram will include assessment, optimal course placement and interventions. For long-term English learners, the needs go beyond classroom instruction.
